As we gear up for the launch of our 2024 Writing Contest, we’re thrilled to shine the spotlight on some of our brilliant former winners.
First up, let’s hear from one of Storyshares’ most prolific authors, Cat Jenkins.
Where do you live? Washington State
What year did you win the Storyshares writing contest? 2021
Tell us about your book. The Market at Night is about a Seattle landmark: Pike Place Market. It's an enchanting place during the day, but at night, after the Market closes...magic rules. Angela doesn't believe the rumors she's heard, but then she finds herself in the Market after dark. Soon, Angela believes.
How did you find out about the contest? An online announcement.
What gave you the idea for your story? My first encounter with Pike Place Market when I was very young and got lost in it.
What made you want to participate in the contest? Love… of the Market and of writing.
How has your life changed since winning the Storyshares contest? I've written more tales for Storyshares and hope to continue to do so. I've always been passionate about global literacy, so Storyshares feels like home. As someone who never had much of a home growing up, it's a nice feeling.
